After toiling over getting the little ones' blogs going and updated, I realized that our Haden needs to have one as well as so many changes are bubbling in her world. She has departed from her first decade and entering into her second achieving many, many milestones. Wade and I could not be more proud of her.
Let start off with her stats. I knew she would be taller than me, but I suspect she will tower over me when all the growing stops. She is now approximately 5'6" - making her the same height as me. Her shoe size is now a woman's 10 making me the recipient of her hand me down "gymmers." She is a stunning young "tweener," her blond hair is growing out and she is starting to read fashion magazines.
We are so proud of the young lady she is becoming. She is mannerly, smart (she's spelling at a 10th grade level and has reading at a 7th grade level) and hugely funny (taking after her dad). She is taking piano lessons and is becoming quite good. She is now a huge fan of Fanboy and ChumChum on Nickolodeon - which she watches with huge amounts of laughs after completing her homework.
Her 2009 highlights were:
February - the discovery that she would become a big sister again. She wasn't sure that she was a fan of the idea - in fact her direct quote would be, "I'm not sure that I'm happy about this." I mean, another crying and loud baby? She quickly resolved that she like the idea after all. Two little siblings to whom she could provide guidance and be worshiped? Oh yeah!

March - her very first trip to NYC. She had seen pictures and heard stories - but the real life experience was something she was totally excited about! I mean, what kid doesn't want to visit the M&M store in Times Square?? We stayed with my Uncle Marty and Aunt Carol & Haden made fast friends with them as well as her cousin Charlie - since Michele came up as well. She enjoyed the visit, the trip to the top of the Empire State Building, the walks through Bryant Park and by the NYC Library and the visit to the Statue of Liberty. She looks forward to her next trip there so she can go to the Hershey store.
April - the spring month of traditional showers ushered in a new experience for Haden - an overnight school trip. She was hesitant, but fortunately her mom was a chaperone eliminating her worries. She had a wonderful time with her friends while learning about stalagtites and stalagmites.

May - the end of her 4th grade journey. This school year was punctuated by the completion of her Great Lives project. All of the students in her class had to pick a "Great Life" to study and report on. Haden chose Eleanor Roosevelt. She did an excellent job researching Eleanor's life, finding pictures and understanding the value that Eleanor brought to the world. She put together her project board (with anal retentive help from Nicole) - and found a great costume for her presentation. Haden is fantastic at presentations - she speaks clearly, loudly, makes great eye contact, covering her topic with the ease of someone destined for public speaking.
June - summer time should be fun, but alas Dad & Step mom work - so Haden had to head to Kyrene Academy a few days a week. Despite the fact that it felt like school, was hosted in a school and did not have a television or video games - Haden still managed to have a pretty good time. She took a babysitting class where she learned the basics of child care to how to market her services. She also took yoga her last period in order to find her inner chi.
July - a banner month in 2009 for Haden! She embarked upon her first "minor" trip (as she calls it) solo from Phoenix to Cincinatti. Haden went to visit Nana and Pop and did so by getting on an airplane by herself. Despite the fact that their were some snafus in the airline's unaccompanied minor procedures, Haden managed to deftly get to and from Cincy all by herself and had a blast while visiting.

August -
Haden started 5th grade! No longer having Shannon & Monica as the sister teaching team - she entered the class room with some hesitation - only to find that Miss Monica is still as cool as ever!
September & October -
Haden, along with the rest of the Newhouse Crew moved into a new home. Haden's new digs are pretty cool - as she has her room attached to her bathroom which is attached to her "office." She loves having her space - where she can sing, perform, do homework, play video games and watch Fanboy and Chum Chum. She also welcomed in her next little trainee - her littlest sister, Olivia.

Taking Piano for the last 6 months provided it's first reward - a Piano Recitital! We are so amazed at this young lady's poise and talent. Each participant had to stand up to the microphone, introduce themselves and the music that they would be performing. With no hesitation and with great clarity and annunciation, Haden did exactly that and then followed it with a flawless rendition of her piano piece.
December -
Haden turned 11! She had her birthday party at this cool place called "Girly Girlz." The theme of the party was a night (or afternoon as the case may be) at the Glammies. She invited 5 of her friends and they all had their hair and nails done - prepared their award acceptance speeches noshed on some pizza and had a grand ole time.
Hi Nicole! I think you did a good job with this blog although you forgot to put in January and then you could also say that I'm a big fan of the computer games as well as my cousins. At least I thank God and you for not putting in the fact that Fanboy's my boyfriend. Then, the next blog you could say that I'm a big fan of the song "Do You Like Waffles?" cause I know everyone will laugh their heads off when they see the music video.
